Nominating James Comey for Man of the Month

Now here’s a man with principles: James Comey’s, (former) head of the FBI gave Donald Trump the proverbial finger when The President of the United States (POTUS) demanded that Comey would pledge his loyalty to Trump.

Comey responded by suggesting a policy of honesty.

Then Comey was fired.

Of course, Trump issued a statement saying that firing Comey had been his plan all along.

Could this have something to do with the rumours that the FBI had been investigating Donald J. Trump? Now that would be a disgrace, right? How would the FBI dare to investigate a president, or presidential candidate (“Jail Hillary”, anyone?)

Loyalty to a person the next step to dictatorship

So, Donald Trump demanded that the FBI director would be loyal to him. That is wrong on so many accounts. First of all, isn’t it the US that is always telling countries that it is important to have a fair democracy, where wrongdoers are punished? Trump is setting a very risky example here: investigate the president, and you’re out of a job.

If he wanted to preserve American values, he should keep his mouth shut. If Trump had done nothing wrong, the investigation would not turn up any evidence, and Trump could point out how he allowed the Justice Department to do their job and serve the people. But instead, he’s going the Erdogan route: if you’re against me, you’re against the US of A. “L’etat, C’est Moi”, to quote Louis XIV.

No Donald, you’re getting it wrong: the person Donald J. Trump is something different from the Office of President. Any good president would want the Justice Department to do their job. And a good president would respect the checks and balances of power.

So yeah, the whole thing is pretty disturbing. But that’s not really the topic of this post. This post isn’t about Trump, it is about James Comey, who stood by his principles and his professional honour, despite the fact it would most likely cost him his job.

I hereby nominate James Comey as Man of the Month.

And I also solemny pledge that if I were ever to become president of the United States, I will immediately hire Comey and invite him to try and dig up all the dirt he can find on me.
